Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences

Welcome to the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, the faculty which prepares medical/dental students for their clinical practice by training them on the scientific basis of medicine and dentistry. The faculty has eight (8) departments namely: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Genetics, Medical Microbiology, Histopathology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology, and Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and runs the first and second MBChB professional programmes. 

This faculty also runs a number of post graduate research degrees (special MSc with thesis and PhDs) in both the Basic Medical Sciences and Para-Clinical Sciences. The requirement for admission into the first MBChB professional programme in the faculty is as follows: • Successful completion of the College's Pre-medical 2 programme • Advanced A-Level Examination with at least 3Cs in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics • At least second class lower Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in the sciences. Admission however into the Premed 1 programme is a minimum of five credits at WASSCE, C5 or better in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and Mathematics or Further Mathematics with a maximum aggregate of eighteen (18) in not more than two (2) sittings, Or its equivalent; and for Premed 2 it is five credit at WASSCE, C4 or better in the same subjects with a maximum aggregate of twelve (12) in not more than two sitting, or its equivalent.
